San Yun Do Description
In San Yun Do (sahn-yewn-doe) instead of emphasizing a type of combat such as strikes & blocks or grappling or throws or weapons, it instead takes a balanced approach to them all and puts the emphasis on its ease of use as well as effectiveness. This way the style can be readily learned by students from any level of martial arts experience with no special physical conditioning. New techniques are always being researched and incorporated allowing for the style to grow and adapt.
The mission of San Yun Do is to provide practitioners with simple, intuitive, progressive training in comprehensive armed and unarmed combative martial arts which meets the following criteria:
Directly applicable in surviving violent encounters.
Trainable by those of all athletic abilities.
Allows for a unique adaptation and expression of each practitioner based on a common set of core principles.
See the Classes button for more details on adults and kids classes and the Seminars button for seminars for your organization and specialized courses.
San Yun Do Philosophy
San Yun Do literally means "Three Harmony Way", or "The Way of Tri-Harmony". The "three harmonies" we refer to can manifest in several ways: Body/Mind/Spirit, Breath/Motion/Structure, Base/Angle/Leverage, etc... when you have all 3 working together, it can be amazing to watch what happens.
San Yun Do is a modern martial art developed in 1992 by it's co-founders Chuck Pippin and Don Young. The result of a combined 32 years experience studying many different arts, SYD is dedicated to taking care of yourself in today?s world against today?s dangers. At SYD?s core is a simple, practical, easily learned teaching methodology designed to instill in new students efficient body mechanics, movement, awareness of surroundings, and creative thinking under pressure.
For experienced martial artists, SYD offers a fresh perspective that allows the person to look at all previous training and see how the seemingly disparate techniques and concepts can be bridged together to create a wholly new perspective.
Co-Founders, Chuck Pippin & Don Young, felt that it was important to insure that the concepts and principles taught at Innovative Martial Arts were universally adaptive. This means that whether you are empty-handed or using tools (blade, stick, staff) the concepts and training methodology remain the same. SYD embraces this philosophy wholeheartedly.
