IMA Mission Statement

Innovative Martial Arts' mission, as a school, is to provide a community environment where, without regard for age, athleticism, or experience an individual, may acquire training in a variety of martial arts and related fields to improve themselves and those around them physically and mentally.


About IMA

Innovative Martial Arts is a school Co-Founders, Chuck Pippin & Don Young and based in Grand Rapids, MI since 1992. It features an array of progressive programs in the style of San Yun Do (sahn-yuhn-doe) that teach practical self-defense and promotes physical fitness, self-esteem, and artistic expression. Regular classes are held for novices as well as experienced martial artists, are both vigorous and fun, and require no special physical conditioning. The environment is respectful, informal, family oriented, and strives to foster a sense of community where questions are appreciated and encouraged. IMA doesn't promote tournament competitions to their classes but will aid students wishing to pursue them.
